It is understandable to feel sad throughout a divorce. You should not feel ashamed of those emotions, and in fact, you should embrace them. Give yourself time to cry. A good way to keep track of your feelings is to keep a journal. It can be incredibly therapeutic to write down your emotions from time to time.
Do not engage in self-destructive behavior
Naturally, you want to avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol or performing other negative actions that will hurt you in the long run. You also do not want to try to get revenge on your ex-spouse. Any destructive behavior during the divorce can come up in court. Find other ways to let your anger out.
Treat yourself
You do not want to go on an extravagant shopping spree during a divorce, especially if you still share a joint bank account. However, feel free to indulge a little bit. Enjoy some ice cream. Go to the movies with your friends. Many people feel the need to bury themselves in work, but do not forget to have some fun.
Create a support network
You should never go through a divorce on your own. Make sure you have plenty of time to meet up with friends and family members. Let them know how you feel. Now is not the time to say, “I’m fine.” Be open and honest. Your loved ones are there for you to let you know you will get through this time.
